LECTURE + HIKE “Determining the age of quartzite buttes in the Palouse hills”
510 S Whitman Ave

USA
Join Travis Morton (EWU Geosciences and STRATA Geotechnical Engineering) in a discussion at the Budding Rose Gallery in Rosalia of his senior research project at EWU Geosciences determining the age of quartzite buttes in the Palouse region. Travis will explain what these windows into the older geology of our area tell us about our region’s past, and then we will walk amongst the folded quartzite we just learned about!
After the lecture at the Budding Rose Art Gallery, we will carpool to the nearby trailhead of the Palouse-Cascades Rails-to-Trails path and journey on-foot across the Old Milwaukee Bridge to visit a beautifully folded and faulted quartzite. The hike is about 1-mile on a flat and gravel path. You can review Travis’ research poster from the 2022 EWU Research Symposium online at https://dc.ewu.edu/srcw_2022/21/
