The IAFI Cheney-Spokane Chapter invites you to come to our next program on Thursday, August 18. Author Timothy Connor will talk about his recently published book, “Beautiful Wounds, A Search for Solace and Light in Washington’s Channeled Scablands.”
Description. Carved and scoured by catastrophic floods at the end of the most recent ice age, the Channeled Scabland of eastern Washington dazzles with its harsh beauty and the diversity of its natural features, including great waterfalls, sprawling canyons, and cinematic palisades.
Timothy’s photography captures the sweeping horizons, braided wetlands, and vibrant wildlife, while he examines the once-mystifying landmarks of the area through the story of J Harlan Bretz, the geologist who first suggested that massive floods formed the Scabland epic cataracts and inexplicably deep lakes. Incorporating the poignant story of his own journey of grief, his book Beautiful Wounds offers a moving, visual tribute to the enduring power of nature and the healing power of time.
In this lecture you will be led on a lush photographic journey into the origins and sanctum of one of America’s most enigmatic natural treasures!
