Archaeology in Montana
The topic of the third annual Cabin Fever lecture was Peopling of the Americas: Old Ideas, New Evidence, with an emphasis on the Late Pleistocene and the period of human colonization of the Americas. The speaker was Carl Davis, author of the book shown here, 600 Hundred Generations: An Archaeological History of Montana. His presentation covered some of the materials from his book but relied quite a bit on other materials.
The lecture was held in person at 7:00 on February 16th at the Montana Natural History Center 120 North Hickory Street in Missoula. The lecture was also live streamed through Facebook. For those without Facebook or who missed the presentation, a recording is available on this You Tube channel. Last year’s cabin Fever lecture on Other Glacial Lakes by Don Hyndman is also available on the same link.
The question of whether any humans witnessed or experienced the Ice Age Floods continues to be of great interest. Artifacts found within a few hundred miles of this area suggests the possibility.
