“Reading the Klickitat Canyon Landscape” Field Trip

You’re invited to attend a field trip on Sunday, October 4, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, covering 25 miles up the Klickitat Canyon. Details regarding the trip include:
- Departure: October 4 at 10:00 AM from the Klickitat Trailhead parking lot (opposite the Confluence Cafe in Lyle).
- Capacity: Limited to 20 participants in 4 carpool vehicles.
- Costs: $10 contribution to drivers for gas, plus money for a no-host lunch at The Hive Cafe in Klickitat (up to $25 suggested).
- What to bring: Water, snacks, binoculars, camera, sun protection, a notebook, and rain gear if needed.
- Safety & Logistics: Stops will be at roadside turnouts, so safety near traffic is a top priority. Due to carpooling, participants will not be able to return independently before 5:00 PM.
More details and registration for the field trip will be available at the presentation titled “Basalt Castles: Reading the Klickitat Canyon Landscape” on Wednesday, September 30 at 6:30 PM in the White Salmon Valley Community Library Gallery Space. That event will feature a slide presentation, a rock display, and discussions on our local geology with speakers Alison C. Dibble, Michael McKeag, and Lloyd DeKay. This program is free and open to the public, and hosted by the Ice Age Floods Institute – Columbia Gorge Chapter.
