The Columbia River flood basalts were an important event in global history. But long before they appeared, other, much bigger flood basalt eruptions porfoundly changed the course of Earth history. Flood basalt eruptions are implicated in the rise of dinosaurs as well as their extinction, in the annihilation of 95% of lif on the planet, and also in saving the Earth from becoming a lifeless, icy tomb. We’ll explore the history causes and effects of these huge eruptions (including CRB), and what their legacy tells us about the Earth’s future.
