Back by popular demand: Central Columbia River Gorge Field Trip onboard The Sternwheeler – Columbia Gorge
Saturday, August 5, 2017, 12:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. lead by Rick & Sylvia Thompson for IAFI. Download the registration form.

Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler

We will meet at the Locks Waterfront Grill in Cascade Locks, OR, at 12:15. Rick Thompson will give a brief talk about the many features on the river and the geologic make up of the Columbia River Gorge. We will then board the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler and cruise up to Wind Mountain and then to Bonneville Dam and back. Rick will give brief narrations during the 2 hour cruise.

FIELD TRIP FEE: IAFI members $35, non-members $45, which covers: 1) outstanding and knowledgeable field trip leaders, 2) a lecture prior to boarding and several talks while in route; 3) a spectacular scenic cruise on the river.

Find out why Lewis and Clack selected the name for this central Columbia River Gorge area and how a whole mountain range was given that name. And what does it have to do with record keeping in Japan and drowned trees on the Oregon/Washington coast. How could the study of lichen play a role in the geologic understanding of what happened here? And who/or what are the “Guardians of the Gorge”? Come join us for all of this and more amidst breath-taking scenery.

Download the registration forms, print and fill in and mail them to Sylvia Thompson, the field trip registrar.
